Statistical Observations of Eosinophilla in Infancy and Childhood

Abstract

|
Eosinophilia of infancy and childhood were studied among in-patients of the Pediatric Department of Severance Hospital and World Vision Children´s Hospital from 1969 to 1970, 2000 in number. (1000 cases from both hospital)
The incidence of eosinophilia was 10.3% of in-patients in both hospital and was highest between 7~12 years of age.
Distribution of eosinophilies were 6~15% in eosinophilia cases and mean percentage of eosinophile was 1.2% in in-patients excluding the eosinophilia cases.
The etiological classification of the diseases associated with eosinophilia were variable but the cutstanding causes was parasitic infestations(41.85), allergic diseases(5.3%) and 52.9% of all cases of eosinophilia was unknown.
Eosinophilia associated with parastic infestation was of higher incidence at World Vision Children´s Hospital(51.6%) than at Severance Hospital(27.3%).
